I think everyone would agree, working from home instead of the office definitely has its benefits.
You can look at what you want on the web, play a few computer games on the side, do some online shopping, all slotted in around your working day of course and who is to ever know?
No having to use the Windows + D trick so you don’t get caught out by your boss.
However, do you realise that the link you clicked on that looked like an ad, could easily have downloaded malware or a virus onto your machine without you ever knowing so that when you connect via VPN to your office, every machine on their network can also become infected – now that’s not going to go down well is it.
The other side of that coin is that if your company were to have servers or workstations infected, when you connected to them – your personal computer and home network will also be at risk.
Data is really really valuable. Security is paramount and strong user names and passwords go someway to protecting you. Just imagine these hackers steal your bank details and clean out your account, dreadful, yes and you may be lucky and get compensated by the bank! Imagine them hacking into your work email and selling all that data on the Dark Web…… a very different story and a very different outcome.
If you can, keep your home and work life separate especially when it comes to data. Make sure you are running up to date operating systems, carrying out regular security updates and it should go without saying keep your antivirus software running at all times. If you have any doubt use the disk-scan feature to make sure your environment is clean. It’s a drag and can take a while, but it keeps you and your company safe. Go get a coffee and make a sandwich while its running – its worth it.
